Board Volunteer Positions

Serving on the Board of Directors is a privilege.  As a board member you have a direct influence on the course of the San Pedro River Arts Council and arts programming in Cochise County.  You will get to know many of Cochise County’s artisans as well as business and political leaders.  You will also have a lot of fun working with an enthusiastic team.  Look over the positions we have open to find the one that best matches your skills and interest.  There is a link to the online application at the bottom of this page.

Please note that all Board positions require a minimum age of 18 years, that you have a valid driver’s license and transportation.

Vice President

The office of Vice President functions as an assistant to the President and is involved in all aspects of the Council.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists the President and other Board members.
  • Fills in for the President when absent or unavailable.
  • Assumes the position of President when the position is vacated.
  • Chairs the Audit Committee
  • Participates in all Board Meetings and is a member of the Executive Committee.

Time Required: up to 10 hours/week – variable

Qualifications: Good business skills, familiarity with all aspects of the organization.

Requirements:

  • Own a computer and be computer literate, experience with Microsoft Office Suite and have an Internet connection.
  • Organizational skills.

Experience & Education: Good writing skills.  Experience in a clerical or secretarial function beneficial.

Secretary

The office of Secretary keeps the records for the San Pedro River Arts Council and assists with official correspondence.  Preparation of Board Meeting agenda and minutes is also a responsibility.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepares the agenda for meetings and emails it to the Board of Directors at least five days before a planned meeting.
  • Prepares the minutes for submission to the Board of Directors.
  • Individually or in collaboration with another volunteer, write other communications such as thank-you notes, letters and email.
  • Maintains a file of all meeting minutes and correspondence.
  • Participates in all Board Meetings and is a member of the Executive Committee.

Time Required: up to 10 hours/week – variable

Qualifications: Good secretarial skills, handwriting and knowledge of Microsoft Word or equivalent.

  • Own a computer and be computer literate, experience with word processing programs and email, and have an Internet connection.
  • Organizational skills.

Experience & Education: Good writing skills.  Experience in a clerical or secretarial function beneficial.

Director – Programming

Responsible for external events and outreach activi­ties of the Council.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Acquire knowledge of programs of other Arts Agencies and Councils in Southeast Arizona and adapts these ideas to the Arts Council.
  • Generate ideas for unique events and outreach programs.
  • Schedules programs in conjunction with other organizations (e.g. community groups, other Arts organizations, Schools, Chambers of Commerce, galleries).
  • Oversee approved programs; appoint a program chairperson, advertise for and recruit volunteers, ensure needed resources are available, keep everyone motivated and on schedule.
  • Report progress of every program to the Board on a monthly basis or more often as necessary.
  • At the conclusion of every program, review with the Board the success and roadblocks to gain knowledge for future programs.
  • Participates in all Board meetings.

Time Required: Will vary based upon events and can exceed 20 hours/week at times.

Qualifications: Have high energy and able to motivate unpaid volunteers.  Creative.  Knowledge of the arts and what’s possible for an arts Council the size of SPRAC. Committed to bringing arts programming to the San Pedro River area.

Requirements:

  • Own a computer and be computer literate, be skilled in using updated word processing programs, email and presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint) and have an Internet connection.
  • Highly organized and punctual.

Experience & Education: Excellent writing and speaking skills.  Work experience might include in education, business, marketing, volunteer management or event planning.

Director – Grants & Funding

Responsible for identifying sources of income for the Council and ensuring there is a sufficient income to support the Council’s activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify sources of grants, prepare grant requests and follow-up through to the award.  Provide post-award reporting to grantor if beneficial or required.
  • If a grant is denied, works with the Grantor and the Board to identify reasons for denial so future applications will have greater success.
  • Identifies and pursues other (non-grant) sources of financial contributions to the Council.
  • Generates and implements fund raising ideas.
  • Working with the Treasurer, prepares an annual forecast/budget of income.
  • Reports monthly to the Board on fund raising activities and results.
  • Participates in all Board meetings.

Time Required: 5 to 10 hours/week – could be greater at times based upon the Council’s needs and activity.

Qualifications: Willing, energetic and idea oriented.  Knowledgeable about the arts and committed to bringing the arts to the San Pedro River area. Grant writing experience a definite plus.

Requirements:

  • Own a computer and be computer literate, be skilled in using updated word processing programs, email and presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint) and have an Internet connection.
  • Highly organized and punctual.
  • Willing to update his/her skills as needed in the realm of information technology, politics, fund raising, grant writing, and other needs contributing to the success of the Council.

Experience & Education: Excellent writing and speaking skills.  Experience making presentations to groups a plus.  Work experience might include teaching, business, law or marketing.  Some college an additional benefit.
